Dorm Life
During our MGT330 study abroad program in Madrid, we were housed at Yugo Madrid El Faro, a student residence designed for international and exchange students. The dormitory offers well-maintained, air-conditioned double rooms, each furnished with two beds, two desks, two wardrobes, a compact refrigerator, microwave, and a private bathroom with a shower. Room assignments were made based on gender, with roommates paired randomly.
Most students in our group were placed on the same floor, promoting a sense of community, while others were just one or two floors apart. The inclusion of a mini-fridge and microwave was especially convenient; we recommend stocking up on bottled water upon arrival, as many students experienced fatigue and dehydration due to jet lag and the time difference.
Each room was supplied with basic necessities including towels, toilet paper, and bedding. However, soap is not provided and should be purchased independently, which are available at nearby supermarkets for under €5.
Yugo El Faro also features several shared amenities:
-
Community room for socializing
-
Multiple study rooms for focused work
-
Vending machines offering snacks and drinks
-
Laundry room with detergent provided (approx. €5 per wash-and-dry cycle)
-
Small gym for exercise
-
Café area for casual dining or coffee
Overall, the residence hall provided a clean, comfortable, and supportive environment that enhanced our study abroad experience.
